![]() ![]() ![]() The app produces perfectly synthesized continuous sine waves - this is way better as a reference tone than the canned repeating audio samples that a lot of other pitch pipe apps use (and in fact, some of these pitch pipe apps with canned guitar audio samples are actually slightly out of tune!). Furthermore, in order to tune properly by ear, it's important for the sound coming from the guitar string to be as close as possible to a perfect sine wave. From my testing, the phone speaker does a better job of projecting frequencies an octave above the actuals. This app is a pitch pipe tuner app - it relies on the player using their ear to tune correctly. (I also mention the reason in the app description on BB World). I can't reply to that person in BB World, but I did want to explain that feature somewhere, hence this forum comment. There was a 3 star review today from someone whose English I could not quite parse (they might not be a native English speaker, so no worries - Edit: actually I think they just made a typo) that seemed to be dissatisfied with the fact that the notes are all an octave high. Just a quick note for folks who have used or might use this app. I suppose it depends on your own ear and the noise level in your environment what is uncomfortable, but in any case, the B and high E tones are now attenuated a bit vs the others, to make the perceived loudness closer to the other strings at a given volume setting. Some user reviews said the high E was painful to listen to. * Tweaked the relative volumes of the buttons. I'm guessing that most all-touch device users compose in portrait most of the time. * On all-touch devices, the app's UI is temporarily rotated to portrait when the user is composing a support request email or composing a BBM share message. * Added an "email us" feedback form, since there is apparently a bug in the BlackBerry World on-device app where the BB World's "Contact the developer" menu action sends the user to the developer's website, instead of popping up an email composer card, once the user had downloaded an app.ĭev forum discussion: Re: "Contact Developer" on BB World is broken. * Linked the on-screen volume slider control to the device volume up/down keys I pushed another update of this app, with some minor changes: Link to BlackBerry World listing: Guitar Tuner - BlackBerry World Use the 12th fret natural harmonics, and listen for the beat frequency to disappear as you fine tune each string. The pitches are an octave high because the notes in the correct octave are too low for a phone's speaker to project with much volume. It's important for you to develop your ear if you want to be a good musician. It produces pitches for you to tune to, using your own ear. Note that this free app does not listen to your guitar and tell you if you are in or out of tune (if you want that functionality, try a different app). ![]() The six buttons for the string notes toggle on and off individually and work as radio buttons as well just hit the next note you want to tune to and the currently playing one switches off. This guitar tuner generates continuous synthesized tones for a standard guitar tuning. If you know someone who lost the use of this app when they upgraded their device operating system to 10.3.1, please consider letting them know that it is now native, and they can re-download it and continue to use it. BlackBerry removed support for Adobe AIR in operating system version 10.3.1. It will now work on BlackBerry 10 devices with operating system version 10.3.1 and above. Enjoy.Īs of version 1.0.0.2, this app is a native BlackBerry Cascades app (previous versions were coded in Adobe AIR). This is just a simple pitch pipe guitar tuner for a standard tuning - nothing fancy. As an exercise to get myself to learn about native audio, I updated one of my free Adobe AIR apps to native, so that it will continue to run on 10.3.1 and above devices. ![]()
